WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BLUEBONNET BOOK?
On January 27, Wesley 4th grade students Elizabeth Pickett, Connor Wanamaker, Matthew Morrison, Rebekah Miller, Alexis Lanning, Austin Slivensky, and Emmanuel Anekwuonye enjoyed breakfast in the library, received certificates from the Texas Library Association, and voted for their favorite Bluebonnet book. Each of these students read and reported on at least 5 of the 20 books nominated this year for the Bluebonnet Award. The results of the state-wide vote by Texas schoolchildren, grades 3-8, will be announced at the Texas State Library Association annual conference this spring.
The Bluebonnet Award is given each year by the Texas State Library Association to the book receiving the most votes from Texas schoolchildren grades 3-8. Twenty books were nominated this year, and the nominated book list was included as part of Wesley's summer reading program. Books are also available in public libraries and bookstores. In September, copies were placed in the Wesley Academy library, and teachers took a turn reading and reviewing the books. Teacher reviews were posted in the library window. Watch for the 2010-2011 Bluebonnet Nominee List, soon to be published!
