Infants

At Wesley Academy, we begin accepting students at 6 months old and provide an academic curriculum that intentionally builds the strong developmental foundation needed to excel as they progress into prekindergarten and beyond.  Wesley provides a low ratio of teacher to students in a Christian environment where your child can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.  We recognize that your child is an individual that it is our goal to personalize your family's experience in our school setting.  Our daily goal is to guide your child's development while partnering with you.  Generally, these are the developmental milestones we work towards:

Three to Seven Months
  • Reaches
  • Expresses happiness and sadness
  • Supports upper body with arms when on stomach
  • Looks at hands and feet
  • Bats or hits at an object
  • Enjoys looking in a mirror
  • Rolls over
  • Recognizes familiar people
  • Plays “Peek-a-Boo”
  • Laughs
  • Attempts to pull up
  • Bounces when standing in an adult’s lap
  • Holds a bottle
Six to Ten Months
  • Sits unassisted
  • Looks for an item when dropped
  • Drops things on purpose
  • Changes an object from one hand to another
  • Rocks on hands and knees
  • Mimics actions
  • Mimics sounds
  • Babbles a string of sounds
  • Pulls up to a standing position
  • Makes purposeful noise
  • Puts small items in mouth
  • Feeds self – finger foods
  • Looks at pictures when named
  • Picks things up
  • Pushes and shoves things
  • Crawls
Nine to Thirteen Months
  • Recognizes familiar words
  • Takes off clothing
  • Fits nesting boxes together
  • Waves goodbye
  • Crawls, scoots, creeps
  • Follows simple directions
  • Looks at a book
  • Remembers where familiar items are kept
  • Drops things into an open box
  • Scoops items
  • Begins to roll a ball
  • Babbles, mimicking speech
  • Tears paper
  • Copies simple gestures
  • Scribbles
  • Approximates simple words
